The construction of this fortress dates back to the 17th century. It was built as part of the coastal line defense fortifications, which ran from the beach of Abano to the beach of Caxias, defending against any enemy who wanted to invade the Capital.

Its original name was "Forte da Cruz de Santo António d'Assubida," and it was built to cross fire with another fort called "Forte de Santo António," which no longer exists.

It was purchased from the state in the nineteenth century, notably in 1894 by the current owners' great grandfather, who preserved the custom of following the King and his court to Estoril and Cascais every year during his summer holidays.
