The construction of this fortress dates back to the 17th century. It was built as part of the coastal line defense fortifications, which ran from the beach of Abano to the beach of Caxias, defending against any enemy who wanted to invade the Capital.
Its original name was "Forte da Cruz de Santo António d'Assubida," and it was built to cross fire with another fort called "Forte de Santo António," which no longer exists.
It was purchased from the state in the nineteenth century, notably in 1894 by the current owners' great grandfather, who preserved the custom of following the King and his court to Estoril and Cascais every year during his summer holidays.

Casino Estoril is a fantastic gaming and entertainment complex that no tourist should miss. One of the largest Casinos in Europe, and it is located in Estoril, 18 kilometers from Lisbon and 20 kilometers from the city's international airport.
Its history dates back to the turn of the twentieth century. It was a concession to Fausto de Figueiredo, a businessman who wanted to turn Estoril parish into a world-class tourism destination. Casino Estoril, which first opened its doors in 1931.
The sixth chapter of the James Bond story was shot in Portugal in considerable part. In the summer of 1968, the cast stayed at the Hotel Palácio Estoril, and the hotel provided a unique setting for the film, which starred Australian actor George Lazenby – the second James Bond agent after Sean Connery – and English actress Diana Rigg.
